Chris Brown has been granted bail by a London judge, set at $6.7 million, following his arrest last week on assault charges, Reuters reports. The R&B singer was released on Wednesday (May 21) under strict conditions that include surrendering his passport when not traveling for his upcoming Breezy Bowl XX Tour.
Bail Conditions and Upcoming Tour
According to court documents, Brown must pay $5.4 million immediately, with the remaining $1.3 million due within seven days. The “Forever” singer has not yet entered a plea in the case.
The bail arrangement appears designed to accommodate Brown’s touring schedule, as his Breezy Bowl XX Tour is set to begin on June 8. The North American and European tour, which also features Summer Walker and Bryson Tiller, had been in jeopardy following his initial detention.
Assault Allegations
Brown was arrested on May 15 at his Manchester hotel on “suspicion of grievous bodily harm” related to an alleged incident at a London nightclub in February 2023. Prosecutors allege that Brown was involved in an “unprovoked attack” with a tequila bottle on music promoter Abraham Diaw.
The case also involves Omololu Akinlolu, known professionally as HoodyBaby, a friend and fellow musician of Brown’s. Akinlolu was charged on May 17 with causing grievous bodily harm with intent in connection with the same alleged attack.
Legal Timeline
The two-time Grammy winner was initially denied bail during a court hearing on May 16, with the judge remanding him into custody until a scheduled June 13 hearing. However, Wednesday’s bail decision has altered this timeline.
Brown’s next court appearance is now scheduled for June 20 at Southwark Crown Court in London. This date falls between two scheduled performances—Cardiff, U.K., on June 19 and London on June 21—suggesting the singer plans to maintain his tour commitments while addressing his legal challenges.
Representatives for Brown and tour promoter Live Nation have not yet commented on the situation.
